I added a few lines to my last response for an example. Harvard and Yale.
It’s kind of like when my kids have asked “Hey Dad, why arent there more LDS movie stars?”
The answer is similar. Because our mission as members of the church isn’t really that compatible with Hollywood stardom. We prioritize family over career. Working long hours, Traveling the world to on-location shoots doesn’t work well with motherhood or fatherhood. We have sworn allegiance to God and his kingdom above all else. We try to live life serving others, not seeking the limelight. We try give our resources to the church, to our children, and to those in need. It’s a tough fit. There are some breakthroughs here and there, an occasional star but we will never have a truly significant presence in Hollywood.
Likewise, BYU football will have some breakthroughs here and there. I hope they do and expect them to. But as long as we stay true to who we are, we will not consistently be one of the college football big dogs. It’s not our mission.
And that’s ok to me. It’s not upsettIng at all.
