From what I've read, the bigger swings in climate change come from positive feedbacks resulting from this or that forcing that doesn't have that huge of an effect itself. There are probably very very long term (longer than human society has been around) feedbacks that keep us from going off the deep end like Venus or Mars, but from what I've researched the (relatively) short positive feedbacks triggered by global warming are what we really need to be concerned about.
