I have an idea. If you hate it, fine. If you like it, fine. If you want to participate, great. I think it could be a cool way to discuss the defense.
(Preamble before I share my idea): Every problem has one or more symptoms and one or more root causes. And sometimes those root causes have their own root causes. Solutions which treat symptoms can have some temporary success, but if they don't also address root causes, they won't really solve the problem.
Here is my idea: let's have every immediate reply to this post be a symptom of our problems on defense. Symptoms would be things that we observed happen in games - e.g. types of plays given up, specific repeated mistakes, etc. Then, let's reply to those symptom posts with what we think the root causes of those symptoms are. Root causes can be replied to with their own root causes, or if we are so inclined, we could respond to the root cause posts with solution posts, although I'm guessing most of those would be "fire Howell," "fire Bronco," or "recruit better players."
Again, if you hate the idea, fine. It was just a thought that might lead to an interesting way to do this without getting angry or falling into the same argument traps that we consistently find ourselves in (unless someone responds to every subthread with "fire Howell, fire Bronco, and recruit better players," I guess).
