when I was on my mission. They often lack common sense and can be blinded by the work. I would talk with them in person and explain that what they did was a bad idea. Plus it's not even effective missionary work. Members help the work when they know the investigators outside of the lessons. Bringing a complete stranger into a random home is rarely going to be effective. Sounds like they were just trying to get more lessons with member present.
