That STILL is not because of breed. It's because of humans being irresponsible
with breeds. I've seen statistics that say otherwise. Plus these are the reported ones, not to mention that some dogs are reported as a pitbull that aren't actually a pit bull. I've probably met way more pits than you have in my job not to mention many friends, neighbors, colleagues, rescues, you name it who have pits who have NEVER had their pit so much as eyeball anyone and I've never seen one there or in public who has acted viciously.

Also statistics have shown that when places ban breeds, bites and attacks do not go down. Banning a breed will only drive it underground and possibly result in more problems as irresponsible people will likely hide them from going to vets or getting trained properly or whatnot.

If you fear getting killed by a dog, you probably should stay away from any dog bigger than a small lab. You never know which breed given the right circumstances will kill you. If people would overall be more responsible and knowledgeable with their dogs no matter breed, bites by any dog breed would go down. Imo the ONLY reason you might see more pit bites is because of people being more irresponsible with the breed, rather than the breed being dangerous.
