up from work to see her curled in a ball on the couch sweating from the pain. She cut gluten and dairy out of her diet for 3 years and it worked wonders. Now about 3.5 years later and she has been able to add in a limited amount of whole wheat and homemade sourdough and does ok (tried after a year and it was right back to the old problems).
It really is an issue with some people. The fad part of the diet drives me nuts though. People thinking gluten is "bad" for them is ridiculous in my mind ... it is the protein of the bread and probably about the best part of the bread for you.
It makes me sad because all of the fru-fru people ruin it for those legitimately suffering and makes people like my poor sweet wife feel even dumber when we go out to eat with friends.
