There are arguments that I do not buy.

#1 Ty did not have his players to run his system.  He accepted they job.  They were his players from the moment he signed his contract.  He should have adjusted his system for the talent that he had, not visa versa.

#2 The defense did not put the team in a position to win.  This was true in only 3 games, LSU, Wisconsin and Mississippi State.  They may have also lost to Boise State anyway well with a better offense.  That is an 8-5 season at the worst.  Utah State scored 24 points off of turnovers, that can't be blamed on the defense.  With an 8-5 record, or even with a 6-7 record, Ty Detmer still has a job.

I think if BYU beats UMass, that Ty still has a job.  That was the final straw.

I am not defending Kalani, however.  I think that other changes need to be made.

I agree with those who say if it wasn't Ty Detmer, if it was someone else, there would have been no controversy.  People would have cheered the decision.
