I personally feel if they are on scholarship and they make choices that
embarrasses the school paying for their education, a public apology should be required. I am only referring to legal issues that would apply no matter where they go to school and not the honor code. For example:
"I'd like to sincerely apologize to Coach Mendenhall, his staff, the players and BYU fans. This past weekend I received a DUI citation, which will delay my arrival. I know I have disappointed you, my family and my friends. You have my firm commitment that I will do what it takes to earn back your trust and be a part of BYU's winning tradition."

That was KVN after signing with BYU. It was read by Bronco at the signing day media event.
