would you do the same for your employer - all employees? Where do you draw
line with the school or employment? Student body, alumni, donors, sponsors.../associates in your department, associates in your building, associates throughout the US or across the globe? Really, where does one draw the line? As a donor, I don't care for an apology. He didn't cause me harm by his/her actions.

I have unfortunately dealt in my work with approximately 100 associates who have violated trust and laws. I have sent just over 30 to prison for their ill-judgment, with the remaining either being terminated or receive harsh punishment while allowed to stay, under strict conditions. Not once was it asked of nor required for the individual to publically apologize for their wrong doings. They did apologize or almost all apologized to those in the room during the interviews/confessions/or court. That was sufficient. What good would have come out of having John Doe in accounting confess to the company's associates that he was guilty of embezzlement? I am speaking personally benefitting him.

Christ didn't ask the woman caught in adultery to apologize. He asked her to go and sin no more. If she had apologized, what would have likely happened to her based on the customs of the times? By His loving forgiveness, I hope she lived a long life and hopefully following our Savior's teachings.

If someone feels compelled to apologize to all, good for them. But I would not expect it nor require it. These athletes, especially at BYU go through the sewer as is (just go back to Brandon Davis experience in the media and with apposing schools). I can fans, who struggle with acts not conducive to the school's honor code yell to have more details, in order to deflect attention from their fallings. Or, to crave further knowledge of acts committed. When we hear of a famous person committing an act of adultery, isn't the first question we ask is we want to know more (why, who, where). So in the apology how much detail would satisfy you? Personally, I only care that the individual is on their way to full repentance and restitution.

Outside of athletics, over my lifetime, I have seen Church leaders make mistakes and go through repentance. Despite their callings of Bishop or Stake President, I have not seen or heard of them having to publically apologize to their congregation or the Church.

So why would we want an athlete or a non-athletic student at the school apologize to the school. Students are on scholarship for academics or non-athletic talents. Should they apologize?

I for one am grateful repentance is between the Lord and myself (family and those who I personally caused harm included) and if needed, Priesthood holders, who will NOT discuss issues outside of the proper settings.
