I like the idea, but you get into ethical questions when deciding whether or not
to order a certain test or perform a certain treatment based on financial considerations. Like, if I know the exact cost of getting a CT scan on a kid to rule out appendicitis, will I be more likely to recommend those for rich families than poor families? Will I be more likely to just "chance it" on kids from poor families because I don't want to ruin them financially?

In some ways, I would rather not have the doctor or the family know the cost of anything we do, because then we can make decisions based purely on medical evidence, without money considerations muddying the waters.
