There are some procedures I do not covered by insurance, so I can give up front pricing on those, because I set the price knowing the competitive rate for such.
But for 99.9% of what I do, I have the same idea as the patient how much I am getting reimbursed (almost none). Because every single insurance plan pays differently for every visit, procedure, lab test, scan, etc. I couldn’t tell a patient with their specific insurance plan if I am the best deal in town, brcause I hardly know what I get, let alone any other physician at another clinic.
And yes, I do think that is a problem, but not the individual physicians’ fault. It is more the insurance companies’ and the big health care companies’.
