In Alpine School District, the insurance is so amazing that I know several
teachers who joined the Air National Guard there to get on the ANG health insurance (Tricare Reserve Select) because it was significantly cheaper/better than what they had access to with the school district.
The benefits of teaching are good, especially compared to many private sector jobs, and I’m not trying to reopen the ongoing debate about whether they are paid enough. But the benefits (at least in many areas) are likely not as good as you think.
