I've seen hockey. I'll choose indoor soccer if its just a sport comparison.
Indoor soccer is very similar in structure to hockey, with the boards surrounding an artificial turf pitch. Same size field as hockey. 6 vs. 6. Free substitutions on fly, power plays, etc. Higher scoring than hockey. I like a hockey structure for soccer. Thanks hockey. When I first saw indoor soccer I'm 1984 (old MISL) I thought it was the best and most exciting sport I had ever seen. I still go watch the San Diego Sockers play at the Sports Arena when I'm in San Diego. I still play indoor soccer.

When I watch hockey I see it through the lens of watching lots of indoor soccer. So I see soccer as being much cleaner. Fast but not too fast as to make the game overly chaotic and hard too follow. More beautiful ball skills (over puck handling ). Much more beautiful goals, where you can actually see the ball trajectory, and where the goal keeper has to cover more goal area so is more active and even has to dive. Beautiful diving saves. Whereas in hockey the goal keeper, with an absolutely ridiculous amount of padding, covers seemingly every square inch of that little goal area. The little puck, traveling at high speed, goes through mere inch gaps to score a goal. Can't see it. I see a jumble of players in front of goal , a real cluster crap of players. Goals aren't nearly as beautiful as with indoor soccer (or regular soccer for that matter). There is even more turnover and less possession than soccer. And the game is much more accessible than hockey. I took my ball up to the park yesterday and worked out. I can't take ice skates and a puck up there and play. I can juggle and dribble the ball and pass and shoot against the wall by myself. And the fighting in hockey. Ugh. I'll watch MMA if I want that. I hate diving in soccer but fighting as much as they do in hockey cheapens the game to the level of the roller derby of the 1970's.

But all of that is just MY opinion. Your opinion is obviously different. Enjoy your hockey. There are many more people who enjoy hockey in US / Canada than American -style indoor soccer. But just be careful coming into soccer threads with anti-soccer trolling. I've been bombarded with that for 34 years. We are all tired of the anti-soccer BS.Soccer has much more stigma than hockey in the US/Canada. Especially with all the resentment the (especially older) Americans have to what they see as encroaching globalism and soccer as a symbol of that.

Enjoy your hockey. But no thanks. I have my game, in all it's forms.
