First off, no one is shaming him. He made it public himself. And second, it is legit because it does affect people.
And for some, very profoundly. Ignoring that reality is folly.
Now, he might be in a better mental place. His meds might be better now. And he might have learned better tools to handle it. So because it might have been an issue in the past---and it is safe to assume it was because Tanner chose to go public with it himself basically acknowledging it was for him so he could take some stigma away--it does not mean it will be one for 2018.
And I assume it won;t be. But let's not say people are shaming him over this. I'm not seeing that. There is concern that it could affect him on field play. That is a legit question because mental illness does affect people in their day to day activities.
I hope he kills it in 2018 on the field.
