I'm all for reading, it's critical, but how about dropping all foreign language classes and adding things like
Personal Finance, Culture(instead of language) and Computer programming for those years? From my kids to ward members, friends etc... there may be something like 1 in 30 that actually learn the language well enough that it made sense to spend 4 years of school working on it.

Also, why do we even bother with spelling quizzes in elementary schools? What a waste when you have spellcheck.

You can feast upon the written word I. Ways that require way too much rewinding and pausing of audio.
