That only works for some people. Some people learn more by reading than hearing
Some are more visual in nature.
Me personally I can't listen to a book and learn anything. I may get the gist of a story but I can't learn real skills that way.
Have you have listened to a book and learned calculus? I honestly don't know any one who has.
All people are different and learn differently. We should use whatever tool we can to help people learn

Also, why do we even bother with spelling quizzes in elementary schools? What a waste when you have spellcheck.

You can feast upon the written word I. Ways that require way too much rewinding and pausing of audio.
