It was probably pretty apparent that Anae wasn't going to be the guy after he was dismissed the first time, he could have gone after a DC that could be groomed into an HC and he didn't. I know that coaching is pretty tough and it's hard to make any kind of long-term plan, but Bronco regularly talked about building a program that could flourish without him. Going after a guy like Kalani would have made great sense to fulfill that goal.
