Maybe Bronco made demands that BYU couldn't meet. Maybe there was a lot of damage because of the frequent "unsustainable" comments. Maybe there were too many complaints. Maybe BYU couldn't match UVA's offer — thus the contract couldn't be renewed. I'm sure that is a story in there that even your 'family source' doesn't know/understand.
Note: a couple years ago I went to lunch with a position coach within the Bronco system. The guy was not a huge fan of some of what Bronco did at the time--he was straight forward about his thoughts, but cautious not to knock him too much. What was being reported at the time and what he said were quite different. That said, I took it as a grain of salt because I understood that there are two sides to every situation (tainted opinions). I think Bronco is a very good HC and D mind — but far from the perfect coach. I do think Bronco generally had BYU's best interest in mind with most of his decisons.
