I know quite a few "late bloomers"
My old roommate was one of them.

In his 20s, he was perpetually broke, had a terrible car, wasn't sure what his career path was going to be, dressed terribly, was socially awkward, etc. He dated some, but was never even in a relationship. The thing he had going for him was he was smart and ambitious.

He took the MCAT, enrolled in med school, completed that degree and residency. He was now in his late 30s, still single, a doctor making bank. He bought a big house, nice car, improved his wardrobe and appearance. He's now married. He told me that once he had some money and a prestigious job that his dating market never looked as rosy. His dating life in his late 30s was night and day better than his 20s according to him.
