No you're not the only one. Lots of people have that take because they're either not going to the right places or live
in a place like Utah that doesn't have great Mexican food or varieties. Also most Mexican places know they need to cater to a broad spectrum. Tex-Mex is on me next time you're in Dallas.

San Diego/Cali mex is great but it's not true Mexican. Neither is Tex-Mex. Luckily I love all three types

In the US I think you're right. I do prefer Ameri/Cali/Tex ified versions to "authentic" here. Real stuff in Mexico city
