RE: I can only speak to the specifics of the BYU-Idaho math department.
I would love to see the data which show that undergraduates from BYUI struggle to get into graduate school generally. While math students may have some issues I don’t believe that to be the case in other disciplines.
I am aware the environment at BYUI is not conducive to faculty research. If research is your desire then you will not be happy teaching at BYUI. However many competent faculty members are happy to be in an environment where research is not the focus.
