If I were a newly minted Ph.D. looking for a career in research I too would not choose BYUI, however that is not how it works, most new Ph.Ds are just hoping to find a job. Many competent Academics are interested in mentoring students and less interested in heavy research loads for them BYUI might be a good fit.
