While I am fairly optimistic about the upcomming season, some of those points
you mention made me laugh a little. Please excuse me if I play a little devil's advocate:

1) BYU basketball had a winning record in the regular season. BYU football didn't. With a 6-6 record, BYU football was the definition of mediocrity.

"Football Has:"
"1. Bowlvictory" BYU was 5-6 vs FBS competition last year. They played well in their bowl game, but is beating a 7th place MAC team really something to boast about?

"2.Exciting new QB’s" BYU almost always has exciting new QBs almost every year. Last year there was Wilson. 2017 was supposed to be the year of the Mangum. 2016 was either going to be Mangum or Hill. Supposedly a huge win-win situation. 2015 was the year of the rookie Mangum. 2014 was the year of Heisman candidate Taysom. 2013 was Taysom's Rookie year. 2012 started with Riley Nelson being on national award watch lists. 2011 was supposed to be the year of the Heaps, but ended up as the Riley show. 2010 Was 5* freshman Jake heaps first year.

The "exciting QB" narrative is almost always present. This year is really no different from most other years.

"3. Fresh Infux of new coaching DNA." This one is actually applicable. While his ability as an OC may still be inquestion, the stabilizing for his presence and coaching style provides is not. Plus, new coaches always buys a little extra patience. .

"4. This one is more in the hope arena: many returning athletes with good chances of complete injury recovery." This is an interesting mix. Should I be excited that BYU returns several of its most productive offensive players, or should I be worried that the best offensive skill players are missing Spring practice with severe injuries?

"5. Always several unheralded arrivals. Best returning Oline in many a year. Best secondary depth in many a year. I’m most excited about new coaches, then QB pool." Like you said, there are always unheralded arrivals that contribute. There are always position groups that are the best they have been in years.

You know what? Your post is correct. All these reasons are reasons to be excited about BYU football. You may have intended them to be specific to this season, but in fact they are in fact true about football in general. You wan always be excited about the upcoming season because there will almost always be:

"1. Bowlvictory"

"2.Exciting new QB’s"

"3. Fresh Infux of new coaching DNA." With the number of coaches in football, there are always new coaches coming and going.

"4. Many returning athletes with good chances of complete injury recovery."

"5. Always several unheralded arrivals."

and

6. Position group(s) that are that are the best they've been in years. With 10+ position groups, this will happen fairly often even if the overall strength of the team does not change.

However, just because they happen almost every year doesn't mean that we should be less excited about them. These reasons are examples of BYU football (and college football in general) is always more popular than Basketball.
