you take any of these characters and where they’ve landed in the last few episodes, and imagine those changes happening over the course of an entire season (or a 1,000 pages), it works. These are all good plot points (I think) that just happened too quickly.

Jack Bauer could totally betray the country if you spent a season or so developing the reasons for the change. Same thing here. They’re taking a thousand pages worth of ideas and trying to make it happen in a single scene or single conversation.
