I don't think it says anything other than where we are at in society. I'm
guessing this is where you are disagreeing? We can agree to disagree. I think you are referring to the specifics of the story (old lady in the rain) and I am referring to the general idea of strangers helping strangers.

The coworkers at the end of the day think it was a nice act of kindness, but that they themselves would feel like a creeper approaching a stranger and doing it, or creeped out if a person approached them did it. And honestly, I don't think they are alone in that feeling. I think it's more common today than ever, but we can agree to disagree on that if needs be.
