I still remember an article in Runner’s World
From back in the late 90’s about a study that was done to see if running really was harder on the knees as we age. What they found was that running had absolutely no negative impact on the knees compared to walking and compared to doing nothing. Basically, the same rate of knee problems occurred in all three groups.

They did find, however, that the group that ran had significant other health benefits.
