It's false that BYU is an unknown outside of Utah, totally the opposite. BYU grads are highly sought after at major companies across the country. True that coming out of graduate programs no one really cares where you did undergrad, but I believe BYU puts more graduates into Medical, dental and law schools than most schools, especially the U. Undergraduate research with a great researcher isn't going to get you into medical school more than volunteering at a local health clinic or doing some other research. Additionally, I have experienced first hand the rigors of the coursework at BYU vs Utah and others and can say it is noticeably harder at BYU and better prepares students for graduate programs than most schools.
