The yewt perception is entirely based off the fact they have beat BYU the past 8
games. As much as they say they don’t care about BYU, the reality is that they would be calling for Whitt’s head if their record were split with BYU over the past 8 games (with the exception of last year). Because the “success” they have had in the PAC 12 over that same period is not very notable.
It’s simple biases in their perception of themselves and the perception of the media. Honestly, if the tables were turned and we won those past 8 games, despite the rest of our wins and losses, we would probably be ultimately proud of independence and our success over the past decade as well.
The BYU vs Yewtah game matters more to both sides of the rivalry than I think most people give credit.
