Got a kid from my ward, Kade Lever, who is the son of a former player, Keith Lever who dreams of walking on at BYU to be a kicker. Keith has been in contact with Ed Lamb, but Lamb won't even allow the kid to tryout. They have been completely stonewalled and can't get anyone to look at him. Even if he were to show up for walk-on tryouts they said they wouldn't let him kick in front of the coaches.
In frustration, Keith has reached out Fred Whittingham at Utah and their Speical Teams Coordinator is very interested in his son and desperately wants a tryout.
Now I am not saying this kid is an all-american kicker, and BYU's kicking game looks pretty solid (for now), but I would hate to see another BYU kid go to Utah because the BYU staff is so boneheaded they won't even let him tryout.
All he is asking for is a try out. That is it. No scholarship or guaranteed spot on the team. Just a tryout.
Does anyone have any inroads to coaches besides Ed Lamb? If so, can you pass on this kid's film below. Thanks.
