I get what you're saying.

That said - I'm also curious as to how many requests for tryouts they get in a year. Is this the kind of thing where they'd be spending an inordinate amount of time watching kids kick (or whatever) if they just took every kid who came along?

I have no idea what their vetting system is as far as determining whether or not a kid is worth taking a look at or letting a kid try out. I do hope they have one, and have a hard time imagining that they don't. But that's on them, I guess.

You are right - it would be disappointing for BYU to miss out on another kid just due to an unwillingness to even consider that there might be a pretty good kicker out there. But I suppose that's the coaches deal.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up. That said - I also agree that it seems a little premature to withdraw from one school and get registered/begin attending another for a CHANCE to walk-on. And I'd be absolutely shocked if they are saying "we really really want him" without ever having seen him kick or without ever having evaluated him. That seems pretty unlikely as well.
