That happens all the time on this website. No, you aren't BYU fans because you have better attendance, a better law school program, or better behaved fans. But people love to bring that stuff up because it makes them feel better about their team.

This particular issue of classiness seems to come up more between these two fanbases. You all have a very homogenous fan population. And yes, you still have beer-drinking, GOT watching fans. But the majority of your fans are your typical white mormons (or MOTCOJCOLDS) and they love nothing more than pointing out the bad behavior of their rival because their fans "don't act that way". And yeah, I think it makes them feel good about themselves and about their team. And no, I don't think that's why they chose to cheer for that team in the first place.
