Good questions and here's my answer:
Lincoln did very bad things and in my opinion he was wrong. The Emancipation Proclamation only ended slavery in the States that had rebelled and left the Union. He did not end slavery in those who stayed with the North. His sole purpose in starting the most horrible war in American History was to keep the States from leaving.

Why would it have been bad if the Confederacy had left without a war? The US would have continued on as a great country. We didn't need Canada to be a part of our country to be great. We fought against Canada and tried to take them a couple times but lost, yet Canada and England are our closest allies. If the South had left they would have also been our closest of allies in the 20-21st Centuries.

Slavery was coming to an end with or without the Civil War. Over 600,000 people died during that unnecessary war. Lincoln and his war was a bad thing for liberty in the long run and it undermined the Constitution establishing precedents that still plague us.
