So things like removing the DH in the NL are not things that would be on the table for me. I also would be against shortening the season. Doing that would put most of the total season records out of reach going forward.
I'm more of a baseball purist, so I really like things that make baseball unique. I like how a really good catcher can frame a pitch and get a ball off the plate called a strike. Often those calls are less about umpire incompetence and more about a good catcher executing the play at a high level to get the call. The purist in me hates the idea of electronic balls and strikes. It cheapens the catcher position and disregards a set of skills that the more elite catchers have.
I don't like the one game wildcard playoff. I'd rather see the two wildcard teams get at least a shot in a 5 game series. A wildcard team with one dominant starting pitcher has a better shot than a team with a more complete and deeper pitching staff. You'd see that play out if wildcard teams got more than a one game playoff. A full 5 or 7 game series isn't workable unless you re-align the divisions and go to 4 divisions in each league.
I don't like the idea of giving a bye to any team in the opening round. Long layoffs are generally bad in baseball. There's too much timing involved in battering, and a 10 day layoff would make batters rusty. I'd rather see the wildcard changed to a 3 game series, which would give the division winners 4-5 days off as the prize for winning their divisions. It would also make the aces on staff of the winning wildcard teams available earlier in the division series.
