It is kind of shocking to me that BYU is struggling so much on the Defensive Line right now. Will Snowden was just talking about it at length on 1280 with Hans. The performance this year really has been bad. But, I am just struggling to understand why.
BYU should be able to recruit well to the DL. We have tons of Poly coaches and there should be plenty of talent right here in our backyard. Both Kalani and Tuiaki seem to be known for coaching the DL.
So is it coaching, recruiting or just players not living up to their talent?
The problem is that this year does not seem to be an anomaly. Tonga is likely gone and the last couple recruiting classes seem light on DL talent.
So break it down for me CB experts. Why have guys like Kaufusi, Fauatea, Leiataua, Pili, Tofa, etc. not developed. Are they just not that talented? Is it scheme? Is it position coaching? Is our depth so bad that losses of Tuifua and Tafua hurt this much?
