Bronco arrived in 2003 and installed his 3-3-5 scheme for 3 seasons before switching to a 3-4 which BYU ran until the 2016 season. While Bronco did try to get quality D-linemen during that time, it never seemed to be a big priority for him because he knew his chances were much better at landing stud LB'ers. The downside is that whatever recruiting pipeline BYU had D-lineman mostly evaporated. It also didn't help that during that time, Utah was gaining the upper hand on Poly recruits many of which were D-linemen.
