I’ve only ever had one that persisted being a jerk. They say “wow, are you sure you’re a BYU fan. You guys are always such jerks to me, I just start first” It’s an insecure, overreaction that some fans are prone to. But talking to em, they’re just people. Despite appearing otherwise initially, good people.

I know this reads like I’m patting myself on the back, I’m not. My point, the ridiculous cycle is easily broken & if someone remains a jerk to me, that’s on them. I wanna show em who we really are, because Ute fans I know personally, they have far more in common as people, beliefs and experience to me than not.

To see each other as evil, terrible human beings etc is ridiculous. Not to sound cheesy, but we’re all brothers & sisters, despite the color we root for. Sports hate isn’t always hate hate, but it’s easy to end up there. Whatever the justification, hate is toxic for the human soul & my hate doesn’t effect Ute fan at all, just me. Sorry, no way to say this without sounding preachy, but this change in approach makes everything about the rivalry better.

And those that wanna hate me because I’m a Y fan, or vice a versa, life’s too short to allow that kinda ugliness in my heart. I see the backlash against ute posters on here, but I think 90% of em are good dudes.
