Furthermore, when it appears that BYU is physically unable to survive the first month of the season against P5s, it forces them to play G5s with less than their best and that makes them more susceptible to "bad losses".
BYU started 50 different players this year; the most of any team in the entire nation. When the talent depth is questionable, when the youth level is high and when you have that much inconsistency in who you trot out week to week to play, it is going to often result in worse outcomes.
But it all begins with the P5 overscheduling.
