Because scouting and the church were one and the same thing for most of us, critizing scouting came across as critizizing the gospel. It has only been since the church made their announcement that so many people are so open about what is wrong with scouting under the umbrella of the church.

I find it kind of sad, actually. My family has been involved in scouting since the time of my great-grandfather, who was a huge scouting booster.
