I always felt the problem with scouting under the LDS umbrella...
was that it wasn't really scouting, they tried to make it into more church. My sons really disliked it, they would go on a campout and it would include scripture study and a testimony meeting, and as much or more church centric stuff as scouting stuff.
I never understood why it couldn't just be scouting, they didn't bring scouting into sunday school so why bring sunday school into scouting?

Not unpopular. That’s how it always should have been. Calling people into scouts that don’t want to do it
