None of aforementioned conferences were ever called P5
That is to say, times have changed.
They may yet change again, but his point is solid. Re-arrange the deck chairs if you want but no group of F5 schools will he added to the mouths at the table as an independent conference. And no P5 conference composed of current P5 schools will be demoted out of the P5.
Ivy - that was so long ago it’s irrelevant.
Big East - where are the football schools now? In P5 conferences. So technically no change in status.
SWC - where are the best of schools? P5 conferences. This actually proves the OP correct.
