Thinking about the time I was present for an ND in an instructor’s home. We were standing in front of his big open safe
and he was showing me a glock. He had already taken the magazine out, but before handing it to me he wanted to confirm that it was empty. But it seemed to be jammed and wouldn’t slide fully open. As he was getting a little frustrated with it and pulling harder on the slide he let his finger into the trigger guard and as he was trying to grip it hard enough to open it he discharged it.

Fortunately, into the back of the safe.

But that’s a guy who knows the rules and the reason that no one got hurt was that when his brainfart somehow allowed him to break one of the rules, he was still following another of the rules in keeping it pointed in a safe(r) direction.

The look on his face of “I can’t believe that just happened”. This is one of the most gun-safety-oriented people I know, but it’s a reminder that none of us is truly 100% safe. You have to be diligent.
