Except that use of emergency departments in place of doc visits is higher in US
than in most comparable countries (Canada is higher, France, UK, Germany, etc are lower) . This is, not surprisingly, do to the fact so many people in the US aren't covered by insurance.

This idea that most people would use the ER over a doctor visit is just anecdotal and isn't borne out by the data.
