But to me, if you take extreme measures to stop an outcome, and then the outcome doesn’t come to pass, the conclusion to reach is your measures worked, not that they were unnecessary.
If I say “Look out, you’re going to get run over!” And pull you out of the path of an ongoing truck, you shouldn’t logically use the fact that you didn’t get hit to be angry that I bruised your arm in pulling you out of the way. You didn’t get hit because I pulled you out of the way. Be happy.
