It's all relative. Similar concept when you move to a full gas grill.
I have a Weber Smokey Mountain, I can do charcoal and wood. I also have a Weber Genesis propane grill. Sometimes you just can't beat the ease/convenience of gas.

But if I'm doing Thanksgiving turkey, or want a really great pork pulled pork I pull out the WSM. I just know that I am going to spend the day checking temperatures, adjusting vents, ... It's a process! But the results are delicious. Pellet smokers are good middle ground.
