When I was getting ready to deploy with the Marines
(I was in the Navy at the time) - we had to pass the Marine Corps PFT test. At the time, it consisted of a 3 mile run, push ups, crunches, and pull ups. The Navy version did not include pull ups.

Anyway - this older guy (probably late 40s) was pretty verbal about his fitness and how many pull ups he could do. The Marines running the PFT emphasized that a pull up only counted if you fully extended your arms and then got your chin above the bar. This guy gets on and proceeds to do around 20-30 pull ups that consisted of him maybe moving 5-6 inches max for each pull up. And the Marines didn’t say a thing. I was irritated. I’m one of the skinny white guys that Slim referred to (not millennial) and I travel well over a foot for each pull up. I got on the bar and maybe did 10. Then I had to listen to this 0-5 brag even more about how strong and fit he was.

For whatever reason that has just stuck with me ever since.
