I'm the same age...
I have learned over the years that the older I get the more I must practice great cool down and stretching after any exercise.
I recommend PNF stretching (google it), which I learned 35 years ago in a BYU PE class.

Stretch might help. I stop usually 5 minutes into my run when I am starting to warm up, and stretch my calves.
