I had a very similar issue. Discussed it with a running coach at the local store (he's also a sales clerk) and he
suggested being more aware of my cadence. He suspected my stride was too long and suggested that the right cadence was 178-182. Anyway, I ran with a metronome app for a couple of runs. I did shorten my stride and quicken the pace (with apologies to SWK) in the process and this lower leg pain has largely gone away.
