So thicker, more supportive heels might help, but how do you figure
out which shoes fit that description? Do I need to go to one of those specialty running stores?

Stretch might help. I stop usually 5 minutes into my run when I am starting to warm up, and stretch my calves.

I would think a low heel drop shoe might help. Most shoes have significant heel
