While I agree that FFP is critical for soccer, the idea that the EPL will
dominate European competitions without it seems inconsistent with recent history. The EPL has brought in more money than any other league for a long time now, at the league level, but so far this hasn’t come close to translating to European domination.

In this century, since 2000, EPL teams have only won the Champions League 4 times, whereas Spanish clubs have won 10 times, Germans 3 times, and Italians twice, along with one Portuguese club.

The EPL has produced more UCL runners-up than any other league this century, with 7, but Spain, Italy, and Germany have each produced 4 runners-up (the remaining one was French).

The Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup) tells a similar story to UCL in the next tier of clubs. EPL clubs have also won that one 4 times since 2000, while Spanish clubs have won 9 times. German and Italian teams haven’t won any, but no one can say that England has dominated this competition either.
