Then you made the correct decision. I had to take that route before due to fire up the canyon on the way towards Soldier
Summit and Price. If I actually didn’t really care about time in the car (usually driving straight through to Texas), I would take the 70. That route from where it picks up off I-15 through to Denver (sans the time between Green River and Grand Junction) is possibly the most beautiful extended drive on any of our countries main highways. Just amazing.

A fun alternate: Take I70 out of green river and hang a right at mile marker 147. Open the gate and close it behind
